The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) was founded in 1837, almost along with the modern Greek state and it is the oldest Technical University in Greece. Thanks to the effort and improvement of both students and instructors throughout the centuries, the University has been able to improve and develop new academic courses focusing on technical science such as mathematics and engineering. Nowadays, NTUA provides courses focused on:
- Engineering (civil; mechanical; electrical; chemical; rural and geoinformatics; metallurgical; marine)
- Architecture and naval architecture
- Applied mathematics and physical science
Since several years, NTUA is involved in EU-funded projects, in order to make available to the project its technical know-how and skills related to the sector of logistics, transport, intermodality and related infrastructures to support accessibility, efficiency and competitiveness of the territory not only Greek, but international.
Among its collaborations, NTUA is partner in the MultiAPPRO PLUS projects, focused on freight transport logistics in the Adriatic-Ionian Region. The University contributes to manage the development of strategies and dissemination activities in order to promote MultiAPPRO PLUS project by engaging relevant target groups such as Infrastructure and (public) services, general public, SMEs, and local/regional public authorities at European, National and Macro-Regional level, as well as engage and expand ITN (Intermodal Transport Network) benefits.
“European projects such as MultiAPPRO and MultiAPPRO PLUS allow us to interface with different players involved in the sector with whom we usually do not work. This allows us to provide the academic vision of the topic of discussion, but also to then deepen details and challenges raised by those who work in the field on a daily basis. Today, intermodality and efficient intermodal solutions is still a wide topic to investigate.” – Dimitrios V. Lyridis, Associate Professor at National Technical University of Athens.
The University is also responsible for the organization of the ITN meeting, which will take place in the Port of Piraeus area in June 2022. The meeting aims to expand the ITN, as well as discussing solutions mitigating COVID-19 restrictions. The event will have a double scope: firstly, it will involve transport sector stakeholders, such as operators and port authorities, in order to promote practices and processes developed within the first part of the project. Secondly, it will spread the existing ITN network with new members who will sign MoU (Memorandum of Understanding). More info will be soon available on MultiAPPRO PLUS website.
