Partnership of MultiAPPRO gathered with their experts in order to form once again Intermodal Transport Network. The fourth ITN meeting was thematically focused on the concepts of safety and security in intermodal and more in port infrastructure level.

Each partner and expert contributed by presenting the situation in their own local and national environment and described the main concerns in the field of safety. These were the topics:

  • Safety and health of workers during port operations.
  • Safety of passengers in port area and on board (first aid, accident reporting, life-saving appliances and arrangements, fire detection systems etc.)
  • Safety during transportation of hazardous goods, fuels and chemicals.
  • Safety of the marine environment from oil spill incidents, air and noise pollution.

The concept of security was presented among the members, while its advantages, strengths and weaknesses were discussed and analysed in order to put the framework under which the various bottlenecks were discussed in the six ITN meetings. Following the above introductory presentation, the members of ITN, under round table structure, discussed the concept of security providing information according to their experience. These topics were:

  • Physical Port Security (risks of the perimeters of ports, natural risks such as floods and hurricanes, man-made risks such as operator errors, weapon risks and maritime terrorism)
  • Maritime Supply Chain Security (risks of transportation of illegal goods and passengers, loss of cargo, unwanted vessels in port and security of containers)
  • Cyber Security (cyber threats such as manipulation of digital systems, data breaches, abuse of authorization etc.)
  • Port Security Plan (involves the competent staff, security equipment, security procedures, restricted port areas, response protocols for security emergency incidents, etc.).

The proceedings of the fourth meeting as well as the others are recorded during the meetings and they will be analyzed by the consortium. The results of analysis will be the positions of ITN members and will be presented with the proceedings in a deliverable form.
